1. SOCIAL STUDIES
The child will get familiar with preschool activities
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- "Детский Сад" in Russian. Watch the video of Irina reading the book. This book gives very close representation of what childcare care centers look like in America or might look in any other country you live in outside of the former USSR

- or any other book available in your local library
- Coloring page of the child holding flowers
BEGIN: In September when summer ends and Fall begins, all big kids to go school and little kids go to preschool.
EXPLAIN: You are now a big boy / girl and You are going to start learning preschool at home with me. (or will also attend early childhood education classes). I am going to teach you a lot and get you prepared for school. We are going to work every day for just a little bit.
ASK:
Do you know of anyone who goes to school?
Do any of your friends / siblings / neighbors go to school?
What do you know about their schools?
What did they tell you about their schools – their teachers? Their activities?
[Have a detailed conversation with the child. Encourage the child to talk. Please be patient with the child and do not talk for the child. Help with a word if needed, depending on the language the child is using.]
ACT: [Read the selected available book to the child. Discuss every page – who is in the picture, what that person(s) is doing, where they are. Ask as many HOW and WHY questions as possible. Avoid questions that require YES or NO answer, for example – Is this boy painting a picture? Or Is the teacher telling the kids to clean up toys?]
ACTIVITY:
Practice Saying Goodbye at drop-off and pick-up
Provide to the child the coloring page, discuss what’s on it and let the child color.
